Medical Assistant / Receptionist Job Description
The Certified Medical Assistant serves a key role in serve at Life Savers Emergency Room. The CMA provides receptionist duties as well as patient care services that are integral to the functioning of the facility.
Duties
- Welcome patients by greeting them with a friendly and professional demeanor, in person or on the telephone
- Handle correspondence with patients, insurance companies, and pharmacies (appointments, prescriptions, etc.)
- Answer telephones, respond to e-mails and faxes in a timely manner
- Able to use computer system, handle transfer of patient documents/billing documents securely
- Ensure patients fill out all necessary forms
- Accompany patients to the examining room, verify patient information, review and/or record medical history, confirm purpose of visit
- Take vitals, perform lab tests, prep/collect lab specimens, dispose of contaminated supplies, sterilize medical instruments
- Support our providers during examinations when necessary
- Answer patient questions and refer enquiries as instructed by physician
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, verifying receipt
- Maintain equipment care and supplies, perform preventive maintenance
- Maintain a safe, healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
- Enhance our practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
- Maintain cleanliness of patient care and reception areas
- Ad hoc duties as necessary
Qualifications, Education & Experience required
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Completion of a Certified Medical Assistant program
- Bilingual in English (required) and Spanish (preferred)
- 2 years experience as a Certified Medical Assistant in a clinic or acute care setting preferred or post minimum 5 week student rotation at Life Savers Emergency Room.
- CPR Certification

- Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider Certification
