Common STDs We Diagnose and Treat

Chlamydia
The most commonly reported STD in the U.S., chlamydia can cause permanent damage to the female reproductive system if untreated. Many people have no symptoms, but signs may include abnormal discharge and burning with urination.

Gonorrhea
Common among young adults, gonorrhea can affect the genitals, rectum, and throat. Symptoms, if present, may include painful urination, unusual discharge, or swollen testicles.

Trichomoniasis
Caused by a parasite, trichomonas often shows no symptoms. When present, symptoms may include yellow-green vaginal discharge and pain during intercourse.

Syphilis
Although less common, untreated syphilis can cause severe health problems. The first sign may be a painless sore on the genitals, rectum, or mouth.

Chlamydia

Chlamydia is one of the most widespread sexually transmitted infections, spread through vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Women can also pass the infection to their babies during childbirth. While many people never experience symptoms, untreated chlamydia can cause serious complications, including permanent damage to the female reproductive system, making pregnancy difficult or impossible later in life. When symptoms appear, they may include unusual discharge or a burning sensation during urination. Because of its silent nature, routine testing is essential to prevent long-term harm.

Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is a common STD that can infect multiple areas of the body, including the reproductive tract, rectum, and throat. It is most frequently seen in young adults but can affect anyone who is sexually active. Like chlamydia, gonorrhea often goes unnoticed because symptoms may never appear. When present, signs can include painful urination, abnormal discharge from the genitals or anus, and swelling in the testicles. Left untreated, gonorrhea can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women, infertility in both men and women, and an increased risk of HIV transmission.

Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis is a common but often overlooked STD caused by the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis. Because the majority of infected people show no symptoms, it can be passed unknowingly between partners. When symptoms do occur, they are more common in women and may include large amounts of yellow-green vaginal discharge, genital irritation, or pain during intercourse. In men, symptoms are typically mild or absent but can include irritation inside the penis or slight discharge. Regular testing is important since untreated trichomoniasis can increase vulnerability to other infections, including HIV.

Syphilis

Syphilis is a serious infection that progresses through stages if not treated promptly. Anyone can contract syphilis through vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Early infection may produce a single painless sore, often overlooked, which heals on its own. However, without treatment, the infection advances to later stages, causing rash, swollen lymph nodes, organ damage, and neurological complications that can become life-threatening. Because syphilis does not always cause noticeable symptoms, early testing and treatment are critical to prevent irreversible harm.

We accept all private insurance plans including Aetna, United Health, Humana, Cigna, and BlueCross / BlueShield.
